Fair and Efficient Solutions in Divorce
Pennsylvania law allows for: (a) no-fault divorce if you and your spouse agree on all matters, (b) divorce on grounds of adultery or "indignities" and (c) divorce on grounds of irreconcilable differences if you have been separated for two years or more.
Barry Lewis is a skilled trial lawyer of our firm who will fiercely protect your interests in contested matters related to property division, custody, child support or alimony, but he strives for out-of-court settlements to avoid the strife, expense and negative affects that litigation can have on children. He will inventory your assets and determine, which are joint versus separately held property, and hire outside experts as necessary for valuations of a business, professional practice, the marital home, investment or vacation properties, pensions and retirement accounts.
He then sits down with you to suggest give-and-take solutions and prepares an offer or counteroffer to your spouse's lawyer. If you cannot reach an agreement, he will file for a Special Master to work out the remaining contested issues.
Custody and Parenting Plans
The best interests of the child is the court's overriding standard for determining primary physical custody and visitation. To avoid decisions made by a judge who is not familiar with the specifics of your family, Mr. Lewis keeps the focus on a sensible out-of-court arrangement that considers work schedules and keeps both parents active in the child's life and decisions about upbringing.
Alimony/Spousal Support
Alimony is often the most contested issue in a divorce, and thus a useful bargaining chip. We protect your interests as the payer or recipient of financial support:
- Alimony pendente lite is temporary spousal support while the divorce is pending, leveling the playing field so that one spouse can't force the other spouse into an unfair settlement.
- Alimony is ongoing support to equalize the parties' standard of living after divorce. It may be short-term or permanent, depending on the age, health, earning capacity of the spouse and length of the marriage.
We Handle all Family Law Matters:
- Modifications of custody or child support, including parent relocation
- Adoption (stepparent, private or Children and Youth Services adoptions)
- Protection from Abuse orders (representing either party)
- Paternity (seeking child support or establishing visitation rights)
- Name changes
- Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
At Hummel & Lewis, we will personally handle every aspect of your divorce, custody or family law matter. Call 570.245.6720 or 877.829.8987, or email us to arrange a consultation.
